Try To Eat

Chowing at the KFC seemed like a much better idea than dining here, where the dare is 'try to eat'!

Taste Away

I just had to stop at the local Kentucky Fried Chicken to see what it was all about, even if just for a miniscule Colonel Burger. My conclusions: the dishes taste very much the same but they're a whole lot cheaper (I paid the equivalent of R6 for the burger).

The mash and gravy comes in a perfectly-shaped little pile...

More Mersing

I spent an afternoon shopping in Mersing this past weekend after spotting some fly apparel in a clothes store on an earlier trip. Unfortunately that old Asian cliche about staure and size seems to be true: I couldn’t find any shoes in my size!

Nonethless, I found a very cool shirt wholly unsuitable for this climate and some gifts for friends and family. I also took plenty photos, so here they are...

Getting Shirty

Certainly standing out from the crowd (and looking a lot like Magnum PI!), AD Jason in Mersing.

A case of 'so bad it's cool'. All that's missing is a moustache...

Give It Horns!

The last thing one expects to see in a shop on the Malaysian coast: a (wholly unofficial) cap for South African rugby team, the Blue Bulls.

The 'bustling' shopping district in Mersing...

Discount City

I spent the afternoon in sleepy Mersing yesterday, getting some washing done and trawling dozens of all-purpose shops (ie. they sell everything, from tools to toys - often on the same set of shelves).

Everything is ridiculously cheap in this town, and I bagged a bundle of badges, books, snacks and gifts for family. I also indulged in a couple of DVD purchases, a bargain at R15 a pop. How legit they are is still in question (I didn't know Spiderman III was out on DVD already...)

I also spotted a range of awesome shirts and sneakers in one store, and will be back on that boat to the mainland to pick some up as soon as I get a chance.

Meet Joe Pet

Seen on the street in Mersing, the sleepy, stupidly hot town on Malaysia's West coast that's the gateway to the Seribuat Archipelago.
